Sistering - A Woman's Place

Food Access

Sistering’s food access programming provides light breakfast and a hot nutritious lunch at both Drop In locations.

Nutrition is key to food access programs at Sistering, which seek to ensure that women who have little food security have at least one nutritious, healthy meal in a day. Women living on the street, or with very limited budget, are unlikely to find food with the nutrients they need to stay healthy. In addition, many women who use Sistering’s services suffer from chronic illnesses that are aggravated when they cannot gain control over their diet. Our food access coordinator plans the menu keeping in mind that this may be the only meal a woman coming to Sistering gets in a day, and she may be living with HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis C or other debilitating ailments.
