Spun Studio, Sistering’s innovative social enterprise, offers marginalized women and gender diverse people a chance to earn supplemental income in a creative, collaborative and healing environment.

Spun Studio is a textile studio working with women and gender diverse people affected by homelessness, poverty, trauma and social isolation. Participation in the studio provides women and trans people who have been marginalized from mainstream economic opportunities a chance to engage in alternative economic and community development activities. Involvement in the studio also builds community and a sense of belonging as well as increased self-esteem and self-worth.

Spun Studio focuses on the creation of sewn, knit, woven, crocheted and felted household and wearable items. Through classes and workshops, participants learn or perfect their skills and complete small orders under the supervision of our studio instructor. Creative skill development is coupled with a bi-weekly Entrepreneur Mentorship Group, through which participants learn how to design, make and present products for sale.

Spun Shop

Although studio members often sell at various pop up events across the city, we are excited to announce the launch of our online store to provide further opportunities for our creative participants to showcase and sell their work all year round.

Each item in the Spun Shop is handmade by a Spun Studio member. When you make a purchase, you will not only be receiving a unique, quality item but you will be directly supporting participants.

RENTAL SPACE

We are now offering our space as a rental evenings and weekends.  If interested in this please contact [email protected] for details.
